Catching up

Outside it's raining hard, the temperature is apparently 4 degrees with threats of snow tomorrow, but I've spent the day catching up on numerous blog posts on my Travelpod so am feeling like I'm still on my travels!

Sad that I'm not in sunny Portugal or Spain, or snowy Andorrra, France, Luxembourg or Belgium, I have just got back to the UK after 5 weeks travelling through all of the above.  If you have been following along here or on my Travelpod then you will know that I had to cut my travel plans short and return to the UK after having my car broken into, but there's a little more to it than that of course :(.

More to follow with highlights and summaries of Portugal and Spain, where I spent most of the trip. For now I just wanted to share with you the rather belated posts from the Algarve, in Portugal and the last couple of quick stops in Luxembourg and Bruge (Belgium).

The Algarve - this really is a touristy place, but I would go back there for more of the same, especially as the weather improves. Check out the 3 posts during my time there here.

Luxembourg - it's a small country but not as small as I thought.

Bruge, Belgium - full of chocolates and charm.

For those of you who I haven't had a chance to catch up with, I'm working on it. Currently I'm residing at my parents house... fighting with insurance companies and the like, but I will be in touch soon x

Hidden gems ... check them out

Whilst I am busying myself returning from Spain, via France (and maybe a couple of other destinations en-route) I thought I would share with you the content of an email that I received earlier today.

If you are planning your travels in the coming months I urge you to check out this link which collates the entries to a travel writing competition entitled 'Hidden Gems'.

I have often shared my visits to the Lake District in the UK via my travel blogs.  The entries to the competition show that others also feel this is an area of the world with some hidden gems. Then there are lots of other places that feature...

Do check out the Colombia entry, and if you want to read the full unedited version of the experience at this 'Hidden Gem' then check out my original entries starting here.

I'd love to know what you think and, if you have been there yourself did you have a similar experience?

Heading home

Well, I'm behind on my blogs, and that's not just down to immersing myself in the culture and experience of my current trip!  So apologies to anyone awaiting the latest on Portugal and the Algarve, although Spain is almost up to date!

For those of you following my latest Travelpod blog you will already be aware that my car was broken into in Jerez (Spain) and we lost a bag as well as the window :(.

Despite trying to continue the trip in positive spirits, this really has put a downer on the plans and we are now heading home via France and will be back in the UK within the week.

If you are planning a trip to Jerez, don't let this put you off as the sherry bodega we visited was a great experience, just plan ahead and perhaps don't advertise that you are a tourist by taking your obviously British car!

Check out my Jerez blog entry here for more.

Not feeling too proud to be British after meeting the resident 'monkeys'.

Sadly, Gibraltar was some what disappointing. You can read all about it over on my Travelpod here: Escape town and head for the upper rock/reserve, Gibraltar
