Get creative from your travels

Do you ever get creative with things from your travels? Maybe you are someone who takes a bunch of photo’s, shares a few on Facebook and then after you return, rarely looks at them again. Maybe you collect souvenirs and that’s enough. But it’s at times like this, when you can’t travel, that you might want to consider ways to get more creative from your travels.

Just as we started the lock-down here in the UK, I suggested some ways to experience travel without leaving the house. That was just 3 weeks ago. Now I’m just enjoying being able to spend time reminiscing and getting creative, so much so I’ve been forgetting to post on here. Today, I thought I’d share a few ideas of how to get creative from your travels…

With photos

Everyone has photo’s from their travels, so why not dig these out and do something with them. Print them or create canvases and other items using them. There are so many things you can do. Check out some ideas from my post: Get creative with photo’s from your travels.

My project life album

Recently, I’ve found that not being able to get out and sketch, is a little frustrating. So instead, I have been finishing off sketches from my most recent trip, but also sketching the odd picture from a photo. After all, it’s much easier to sketch from a photo and certainly helps bring back memories from when you were there. Why not give it a try.

With memories

I love spending time Smashing my travels and sticking all those bits and bobs I’ve collected into my [Smash]scrapbook. It’s a real treat to open up an envelope and start to create a page or two from the memories I’ve collected. Especially given I have about 2 years worth to catch up on!

My Smashbook (scrapbook)

What’s great is that I can refer to my journal or notes, and of course my blog posts. It’s a great way to pass the time and immerse yourself in travel memories without leaving the house. Check out this post if you need some encouragement for recording your travels. You can still do this retrospectively, just from looking through photo’s, for example.

With souvenirs

I just can’t resist getting creative, collecting on my travels. It doesn’t matter how many countries I visit, the memories from the souvenirs I’ve collected, will never fade.

My favourite souvenirs are those that I’ve created whilst visiting a destination, or which have a story to go with them. Seeking our these sorts of experiences are often top of the list when researching for a trip.

With recipes

What better way to re-experience memories from travelling the world, with cooking up a recipe or two. I have a bunch of recipes collected from cooking classes, friends, hosts and random people that I’ve met on my travels.

In fact, some of these I make from time to time. Even if I don’t have the exact ingredients needed, I just get a little creative and adapt a meal, finding suitable alternatives.

My travelling life will continue at some point. For now I’m just enjoying getting creative from my travels. I really recommend you give it a try too.
