Street art in Udaipur

Continuing my search for Street Art whilst in India, I was surprised to find areas with art in many cities. It certainly brightens the walls in places that could be considered ‘dirty’.

In particular, the Street Art in Udaipur really surprised me. It’s a city with much creativity, particularly along the streets and on the buildings.

If you look carefully you will spot painted images that adorn many of the buildings in and around the city. This is a beautiful and traditional form of Street Art. Every so often you might also catch a glimpse of some of the modern Street Art as well.

The painting of folk art has been encouraged by the government in recent years as many of the old images have faded away. A lot of the newer paintings depict characters in traditional dress. Bright colours are typically used.

Interestingly, modern Street Art has also become more prominent around the city, mostly created by visitors.

Udaipur is home to many artists. Many paint in miniature and you can try this for yourself when you visit. See my post: Miniature painting class in Udaipur.

So where are the places to find Street art in Udaipur?

Traditional paintings

These are everywhere, on shops, houses and public buildings. You can just wander the streets admiring this work.

There is some beautiful work outside of the Palace too.

Modern Street Art

This is a bit scattered but down by the river seems to be where a lot of this can be found.

Street Art in Udaipur is everywhere if you explore the city. Why not pin this post for later…
